JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE OF THE MINISTRY POSITION: Contemporary Worship and Family Ministry Leader
RESPONSIBLE TO: Senior Minister
RESPONSIBLE FOR: Leadership of weekly Contemporary Worship Service and leadership of Youth and Family Ministries.
MAIN GOAL: To assist St Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Whitby in bringing people to Jesus through a dynamic contemporary worship program and through a variety of youth ministry experiences. He/she will help to create a caring church where members experience a close relationship with Christ.
PRLMARY RESPONSIBILITIES - CONTEMPORARY WORSHIP
- Work with the Senior Minister to plan weekly contemporary worship services.
- Hold weekly rehearsals with contemporary worship praise team.
- Select spirited music which encourages congregational participation and which enhances comprehension of the message.
- Lead contemporary worship services including opening and closing, prayers and praise. In general, meditations will be delivered by the Senior Minister although the Family Ministry Leader will occasionally be invited to provide a Christ-centred message.
- Attend traditional worship service and lead in music for chorus and be visible to youth attending the traditional service.
- Coordinate audio/visual expressions as appropriate to enhance the worship theme
- Encourage participation of musicians and dance/drama groups from within and outside the congregation
- Participate in special worship and church events
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES -- FAMILY MINISTRY
- Plan and carry out responsibilities for Youth Ministry in close communication with the Senior Minister and the Christian Education committee of session.
- Communicate with parents and youth regarding planning
- Lead a weekly Senior High bible study, with focus on life application
- Lead a weekly Junior High bible-based meeting
- Provide support to Sunday School teachers
- Provide periodic reports to the Session for all youth ministries within the Church
- Assist the Session in evaluating the progress of each ministry and altering plans as needed
GIFTS, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALITIES:
- Mature Christian character with proven experience in leading people to Jesus
- Strong instrumental music skills in a contemporary worship environment
- Able to articulate own faith in Jesus
- Loving and enthusiastic
- University, College or Seminary graduate preferred
SCREENING PROCEDURES:
In accordance with the Leading with Care policy of the Presbyterian Church in Canada, screening of adults involved in ministry with adults and youth includes completing an application form, reference check and a Police Records Check. One other adult will accompany the Family Ministry Leader during Youth events. All work will be conducted in accordance with the Leading with Care procedures.
EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:
- 25 hours per week, primarily in the church

- Two weeks paid vacation during August
SUPPORT, SUPERVISION AND EVALUATION:
- Support of the Senior Minister, Director of Music, and Office Administrator
- Session Support
- Prayer support from Congregation
- Coordinate with Christian Education Committee regarding Youth ministry
- Annual feedback meeting with Personnel Committee
SCHEDULE AND COMMITMENT:
Initially a two-year contract, renewable annually by mutual agreement, at the annual congregational meeting.
